Jon Van Kouwenhoven, ca. 1990
An exceptionally rare double bass by reknowned luthier, Jon Van Kowenhoven. A highly sought after luthier for his violins, violas, and cellos, this instrument was made as part of a commissioned orchestra of instruments in Hoboken, NJ ca. 1990. The top is crafted of wide-grain spruce, with one-piece roundback, sides, and neck of beautifully figured willow. Recent set-up work, including adjustable bridge, fingerboard, and chromatic C-extension by Jed Kreigel of Boston, MA. A powerful, warm bass that responds equally well under the bow or pizz.
