Caressa & Francais, c.1920

$7,000.00Price
  • Albert Caressa and Henri Francais were the successors of the Gand & Bernadel firm, acquiring the business when Gustave-Adophe Bernadel died in 1901. They ran their new firm under the name Caressa & Francois until 1920, when Henri Francais retired. The firm employed some of the finest bowmakers of the time, including Victor and Jules Fetique, Claude Thomassin, and Andre Richaume.

This particular example is branded CARESSA & FRANCAIS, and has been attributed to Jules Fetique while he was employed with the firm,  ca. 1917-1925. It features a round stick crafted of regional wood, ebony frog with open mortice, and brass butterfly screw. A second stamp can be found on each side of the stick before the frog that reads CONCERT D'HARCOURT.

This bow is featured on page 108 of Chris Brown's book, Discovering Bows for the Double Bass.
