French, ca. 1880s
A fully carved 7/8 size double bass made in Mirecourt ca. 1880s. This bass features a spruce top paired with highly flamed maple flatback, flamed maple ribs, and maple neck/scroll. It carries ebony fittings, a maple bridge, and individual Mirecourt tuning machines. BVS just completed a neck reset for proper geometry and better overstand, and installed a brand new ebony fingerboard. This bass is very comfortable and easy to play, with a big, broad, punchy sound that would be excellent for classical or jazz!
