Luke Bair, 2025
A wildly creative instrument by guitar builder, Luke Bair, that is charming and beautifully made! This unique bass features a Carpathian spruce top paired with West Virginia curly cherry round back, ribs, and neck/scroll. Fittings are Pau Ferro, it carries a maple bridge, and Rubner tuning machines. We've never seen anything quite like this, but we've had so much fun with this bass -- it's warm, punchy, and has an absolutely sonic low end. The angular, abstract design is unique and quirky, so if you're a bassist looking for something different that will make you the talk of the gig, then come take it for a spin!
With such radical changes to the traditional double bass designs, trying to anticipate the tonal qualities and virtues of this design was near impossible. Uncharted territory. Anticipating the structural integrity of a new shape was equally difficult. After stringing it up and “playing it in” a bit, I couldn't be more pleased with the tone, volume, playability and looks. -- Luke Bair
