A 7/8 size double bass attributed to the Heinrich Volkmann shop in Germany and crafted c.1890. A beautifully made instrument that features a spruce top paired with a maple round back, maple ribs, and a maple neck/scroll. It carries ebony fittings, a maple adjustable bridge, and modern Rubner tuning machines. An interior repair from Italian luthier and bassist, Umberto Muschietti, reads "This magnificent double bass built 40 years ago by a highly skilled craftsman, an associate of Eugenio Degani, was restored and refurbished by me in July 1939". This is a terrific bass that has been owned by two different lifetime pro-bassists -- it sounds and plays fantastic, and could easily compete with instruments 2x the price!
