Arnold Bone, 136g
Arnold Bone (1913-2001) studied machine construction and design in Boston from 1932-35 and began making bows c.1937. While working full-time as a design engineer at the Dennison Corp, he refined his craft under William Salchow, and eventually became a collector and dealer in fine bows.
This French style double bass bow was crafted by Arnold Bone in Massachusetts ca. 1966. A copy of a Vincenzo Deluccia that belonged to Henry Portnoi, it was originally owned by Leslie 'Tiny' Martin of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and since the 1980s has been part of the personal collection of legendary Boston Symphony Orchestra bassist, Ed Barker. It features an octagonal pernambuco stick paired with a synthetic tip plate, silver winding, and brown leather grip. The frog is ebony fully mounted in silver, and carries a pearl slide, Parisian eyes, and silver/ebony button. An excellent playing bow with a long Boston Symphony heritage! 136g.
